Hopefully the Winter weather is finally coming to an end. Please continue to be careful if weather events occur.
As we all come out of our cocoons and try to spend more time outdoors be aware that our tick neighbors will also be waiting to start enjoying you and your pets company. Remember to use some form of tick prevention to protect your pets.
If you have been outside you may have noticed how healthy the tick population is this year. Scientist think that the bumper crop of acorns in the Winter 2015 could increase the risk of Lyme disease exposure in 2017. This is because when the acorn number are high the white footed mice do great and explode in population. Mice are key players as hosts for the deer ticks. In spring if the mice population is high then the young ticks have an abundant food source. The young ticks then survive well and have a higher chance of picking up the Lyme bacteria when feeding....lets not forget that ticks live 3-4 years.
